Just when I zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Ok. The baby lured me into a false sense of security. Damn her and her sleeping through the night for a week. Now it's back to waking up at 1, 3 and 5. Or at least two of those times. But she's bright eyed and bushy haired at 6:00 am now.

I, however, am not.

I'm the night owl who has just got to bed at midnight.

I think she's been in my head.

Or at the very least, in my bedroom at midnight.

You know what bothers me?

Well I'll tell you.

People who insult you and then say "well, I didn't mean to insult you."

People who make sweeping generalizations and then wonder why you're mad because they were only talking "in general".

We're down to the homestretch of debt.

It has been a long year and a half of having DH sitting around the house waiting for his Permanent Resident's card to arrive so he could work!

We had plenty of offers for him to "work under the table", but we chose to do everything the right way. We didn't want to get caught cheating and have him be kicked out. But still... almost a year and a half of waiting...

Plus, we foolishly had a kid in the middle of it all, so I'm on maternity leave. Severe reduction in pay!

But, we're almost debt-free.

Check out my Sales for Writers! There are some excellent deals to be had. No reserves!

The Pattern
Recently at a family event, my cousin and I sat next to each other with our children and watched the chaos before us.

We noticed who was talking to who, which person was snapping at which relative. Who was laughing. Who was grimacing. Who was bored. It struck us that there was a prevailing feeling of being constantly on defense.

"I think the women in our family are all on defense. All the time." I said.

"What do you mean by that?" she quipped.

It is impossible to say anything in our family without someone hearing "this is about me. Alll about me. What is this person REALLY saying about ME???"

For example. I said something slightly critical to my mother about an uncle. Her response? "Well he's my brother, of course I still have to love him."

Um. Yeah, that wasn't a comment about YOU and what YOU should be doing. I was commenting on HIM and HIS actions.

Cousin and I have vowed to never be defensive in our relationship. It's hard. I'm on child two and she's on child one. When I was on child one, she was, obviously, childless. So our opinions were quite different on some topics. When we each had one child, our opinions gravitated closer. Now that I'm onto child number two, I feel my opinion changing again.

But I refuse to be at loggerheads with her over anything. I refuse to be defensive.
